Shri Mahendra Singh Patiyal

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste


Shri Mahendra Singh Patiyal is a career diplomat and joined the Ministry of External Affairs in 1994. He was inducted into the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) with the Year of Allotment 2007. He assumed the charge of Ambassador of India to Timor-Leste on 22.04.2026.

In more than three decades of his experience, Mr. Patiyal has served in various capacities in MEA Headquarters dealing with a wide range of subjects like Protocol, Administration, Finance, Indian Diaspora, Policy and Planning. He was Director (Overseas Indian Affairs) and Director (Passport Seva Projects) in MEA, New Delhi. 

During his overseas assignments, he served in Indian Missions in Islamabad (Pakistan), Brussels (Belgium), Sofia (Bulgaria), Zagreb (Croatia), Manila (Philippines) and Tunis (Tunisia)  and handled the work related to Administration, Accounts, Consular, Commercial, Cultural and Political matters. 

He completed his Mid-Career Training Programme at Foreign Service Institute - Delhi, IIM - Ahmedabad, Gujarat Forensic Sciences University - Gandhi Nagar, and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University), Boston, USA.

He speaks Hindi and English. 

Shri Mahendra Singh Patiyal is married to Smt Nina Patiyal and they have a daughter and a son.
