
Shri Mahendra Singh Patiyal
Ambassador of India to the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste
Shri Mahendra Singh Patiyal assumed charge as the Ambassador of India to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on 20 April 2026. He joined the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, in 1994.
With more than three decades of experience, Mr. Patiyal has served in various capacities at the MEA Headquarters, dealing with a wide range of subjects, including Protocol, Administration, Finance, the Indian Diaspora, and Policy Planning. He served as Director (Overseas Indian Affairs) and Director (Passport Seva Projects) in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
During his overseas assignments, he has served in various capacities at Indian Missions in Islamabad, Brussels, Sofia, Zagreb, and Manila. In his most recent assignment, he served as the Counsellor (DCM) and Head of Administration, Commercial, Consular and Political affairs at the Embassy of India in Tunis. He also briefly held the position of Chargé d’ Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of India in Tunis and Zagreb.
He is an Arts graduate. He completed his Mid-Career Training Programme at the Foreign Service Institute, New Delhi; the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad; Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar; and The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Boston, USA.
Shri Mahendra Singh Patiyal is married to Smt. Nina Patiyal, and they have a daughter and a son. He speaks Hindi and English.
