Date: 27 September 2026
The Embassy of India, Dili, successfully organised the Viksit Bharat Run 2026 on 27 September 2026. The event brought together around 155 participants, including members of the Indian diaspora, Timorese nationals, students, professionals and friends of India, for a vibrant 3-km run promoting fitness, community participation and India–Timor-Leste friendship.
H.E. Mr. Francisco dos Santos, President of the Municipality of Dili (PAM Dili), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and praised the Viksit Bharat programme in his address to the participants. Ambassador of India, H.E. Shri Mahendra Singh Patiyal, highlighted the significance of the initiative in promoting fitness, the spirit of service and the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
Further, under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in Mother’s Name) initiative, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi as part of a mass plantation campaign, a sapling was jointly planted by the Ambassador and the PAM  Dili within the Embassy premises, reaffirming the shared commitment to environmental responsibility and a greener, more sustainable future.
Ambassador Patiyal also administered the Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India) Pledge to members of the Indian community and Embassy officials.
The 3-km run was jointly flagged off by the Ambassador and the PAM Dili at 7:30 AM from the Embassy and concluded at the same venue. The enthusiastic participation of Timorese nationals alongside the Indian community reflected the growing people-to-people ties between India and Timor-Leste. The programme concluded with the presentation of mementos and certificates, followed by a group photograph and refreshments.
The Viksit Bharat Run 2026 served as a meaningful celebration of fitness, service, sustainability and the enduring friendship between India and Timor-Leste, while reaffirming the shared commitment to stronger community engagement and people-to-people connections.
